Things are getting heavier
Things are getting heavier. It even sounds already quite heavy.
I mentioned previously, that handling the amas is getting more difficult. First of all they are quite long, roughly 9 m, and by adding materials they are gaining weight too.
Only one option how to keep going and not break my and others backs is to go clever. Yes, work smart not hard.
Kerstin brought the idea, that that thingy we have for lifting boats in the marina would definitely help.
Ah, you mean the lift on wheels for boats… hm, yea, that would help, but I am afraid it is too big to fit in our workshop… but lets stay with the idea.
Some crane…
What kind of crane?
To buy? – To build?
OK… let's do it my way… first internet research. Then, we will see what options we have. Waw, ready made gantry, bridge or portal cranes are pretty costly.
Can I build one from wood? That's my obvious question. Ones I said “I would build everything from wood.” Yea, not everything, but almost everything.
Few sketches and I was on my way to the local wood store. I got KWH blocks and I couldn’t wait to build another member for our workshop.
According to my “DIY” rules I try to build as much as possible by myself. Means, buying only necessary bits. Mostly material. This time it was wood, of course chain hoist or “Kettenzug” and a few screws. I even built a trolley, so I can move stuff from side to side.
Everything was done in one afternoon. Sometimes I think somebody very clever and super experienced must control my hands during the building. Or, as we say: you are more lucky than wise. One way or another, the gantry crane is built and its time to test it.
Our two member committee, consisting of Kerstin and me, was happy with the result.
No more heavy lifting and thinking how we are going to turn that piece and then to swap for another and then to turn it again because we have to check something underneath…
I will inform you after the first few lifts, if the crane works as it should.
